September Tips of the Month - Aqua Pool & Spa Pros

It’s about that time… End of the summertime pool season.

It is important to get your water checked, not only to be properly balanced before closing but to see if your CYA levels might be too high. So what is CYA? CYA stands for Cyanuric Acid or also known as Stabilizer. It helps hold chlorine in the pool and not gas off right away so that the chlorine can properly sanitize the water. When completing a water test, if the CYA level is above 90ppm, chlorine is basically ineffective. The only way to rid CYA of the water is to replace the high level water with fresh water from the hose and/or trucked in.

Interesting enough, some customers only like their spa to be open during pool season as well.. When closing your spa make note of what shape your cover is in and if your cover is waterlogged and heavy, then it is time for a new one!
